Ghanaian artist JJ Gonami’s birth name is Jacob Gonami Agbenuvor. Apart from being a hip hop recording artist, he is a songwriter and entertainer from Tegbi Agbedrafor – Keta in the Volta region of Ghana. He delivers his music in English and Ewe native language. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Seethem Empire #Worldwide. Gonami’s musical journey began back in basic school where he studied in Keta. He is acknowledged as a versatile musician since he is not limited to one style of music. These styles are; Hiplife, High life, Reggae, Dancehall as well as traditional music. He incorporates a lot of Ewe Proverbs into his music in order to inform his listeners and promote culture. A number of his songs are receiving massive airplay and making it to the top of charts both in Ghana and other countries.
Most of his colleague in the music industry have commended him for being highly disciplined and possessing many other great qualities. This has enabled him to maintain mutual contact with many artists such as Fuse ODG, R2Bees, Edem, Shattawale, Obrafour, Castro, Stonebwoy and Davido from Nigeria. Edem even ascertained that Gonami is such a talented artist and will offer him assistance in taking Ghanaian music to the next level. He made even more allies including; Sarkodie, Lucci Money, D Crime, Donzy, Opanka, Kofi Kinaata, Ikonz, Piesie, and Ras Nana when he moved from Keta to Tema. He mentioned that he will continue maintaining good relations with lead artists in order to popularize his album.
In 2016, he dropped nine hits including “Unbreakable”, “Mad in Love”, “Money and Bless Me”, “Fire”, “Dab”, “Jehovah dey with Me”, “De Dzi Di”, “Sorpii” and “Volta”. He later on released an album dubbed the Solo Project where he featured artists such as Lega, Keeny Ice, Ras Nana, Edem, Chief One, Odeshi, Emperor, Seyfame, Qwesi King, Torgbe Number 9, Wogbor, Wala Tye, TChar Fama, B4Bona and other artists from Nigeria and Togo. This album consists of songs such as “Ewe Dictionary”, “Megbona” (I’m Coming), “Ngorgbee”, “I Dey Go”, “Take Over”, “No Matter”, “Busy Men”, “Play Your Role”, “Bless Me”, “We Run It”, “Nyeme Kpage O”, “Answer”, “Edzadema”, “Broken Heart”, “Gahojey”, “Wrong Meat”, “Mehaya”, “4 Da Club”, “Roll on it”, “Dey 4 Sack Am” and many others.
Other artists he has worked with include AK Rude Boi, Emperaw, King of Accra, Kush Elikem, B2D from Colorado USA, Obibini, Ekpe, Ras Moni, Asi, Ras Zewuze, Godwin Dash, Startick, Shamelongo, Joe Morr, Quata Budukusu and Chief One. The beats to most of his music have been made by skilled producers such as Seshi, Qwesi King, Streetbeatz, Eddykay RonIt, T-Beat, Twobars, King of Accra, Mix Masta Garzy, Metmix, Startick and DUGUD. Gonami has signed Bright Dogbey to his Seethem Empire Music Label.
He was nominated for; four categories in the 2017 edition of the PEM Volta Music Awards, two categories in the 2018 edition of the Volta Music Awards, five categories in the 2019 edition of the latter, among others.
