Most people know him by his stage name Mr. Eazi but his real name is Oluwatosin Ajibade. He was born in Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Nigeria on the 19th of July 1991. He was once a member of his primary school’s choir. He moved to Ghana at the age of sixteen to further his education. It is in the university where Mr. Eazi started recording music. He took part in recording a popular song at the university. He also established a platform known as Swagger Entertainment which was meant to book and promote events on campus. He released his debut mixtape dubbed About to Blow, which had 13 tracks, in July 2013.
His job as a club promoter finally came to halt in 2014 when an artist failed to turn up for the biggest event he tried to hold. He, later on, moved to Nigeria where he operated about six businesses including an e-commerce platform, soft drinks import, gold mining, and food distribution. It was after he relocated to Nigeria that a UK-Based Ghanaian producer named DJ Juls contacted him after hearing some of his recordings. However, they never got to work together instantly since Mr. Eazi misplaced some of his audio recordings. Fortunately, he, later on, found them and sent them to DJ Juls who creatively made a new beat of a single from the mixtape called “Bankulize”.
He has since produced two more mixtapes namely; Life is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra to Lagos in 2017 and Life is Eazi, Vol. 2 – Lagos to London in 2018 (Abiola,2017). He has worked with big names in Africa including Burna Boy, Sarkodie, Efya, Tekno Miles, Big Lean, Olamide, Phyno, Mugeez, Medikal, DJ Cuppy, and Falz. He signed a recording deal with Mad Decent Record Label in 2018 and a licensing deal with Universal Africa (Sarah,2018). Mr. Eazi gained international recognition when he released the single “Skin Tight” featuring Ghanaian Efya. After his performance at the Ghana Music Awards, Wizkid showed interest in signing him to Starboy entertainment but Eazi mentioned that he was not officially signed (Marcus,2017).
His hit single “Leg Over” attracted numerous choreographers who widely shared their dance moves on various social media platforms (Lawrence,2017). His other hit singles are “Miss You Bad”, “Tilapia”, “In the Morning”, “Property”, “Bad Vibes”, “Pour Me Water”, “Akwaaba”, “Pilolo”, “Fight”, “Dance For Me”, “Surrender”, “Open and Close”, “She Loves Me” among others. Mr. Eazi was supposed to make it to the list of nominees in the Ghana Music Awards of 2016. Unfortunately, he got disqualified; he could not be appointed in the Ghanaian categories since he is not Ghanaian, neither could he be put in the list of the nominees of the Best African Artist of the year category since he was not as big as the other nominees at that time.
Mr. Eazi’s style of music is mainly Afrobeat and is referred to as Banku, which is delivered in Ghanaian Pidgin. He performed at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival 2019 (Adenkule,2019). During the time that Mr. Eazi has been in the music industry, he has received a couple of awards namely; WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards, Soundcity MVP Awards, The Headies and Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Mr. Eazi earned an endorsement deal with a sports betting brand, BetPawa. He also teamed up with Tanzania’s Nandy to record the track “Pour me Cola” which is an advert for the Coca Cola brand.
